I am looking for some honest feedback on how everyone feels about group work for classes. Either face to face or online classes...

Personally, I think group work is a great idea. But, I also think there has to be a balance between group work and individual work. What I've found with group work is that many times there is one individual who takes charge to get things done, but then ends up doing the majority of the work. If teachers decide they want to have group projects, then they should have responsibilities set up for each individual of the group. This way everyone has their own sections to work on, but they all have to come together as a team to be able to make it all fit. Another thing that I've seen become very effective is evaluations. Not only will the teacher evaluate the group as a whole, but each group member will evaluate the others. It lets the teacher know who has been pulling their weight and who hasn't.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that collaboration among students is very beneficial in done effectively. The teacher needs to take the time to determine what students will work well with one another based on their learning styles and personality. Collaboration allows the students to share one another’s ideas, opinions, and thoughts to build and explore differently. On the down-side, there is always that one ‘slacker’ who doesn’t carry his or her weight and this can cause frustration in the group. A good solution to prevent this is peer evaluations that will account toward the grade of the project or group work.
ReplyDeleteGroup work is so beneficial for students; it shows diversity and it is so important to know that students are able to work with each other. It is also important for students to show unity and loyalty to each other. If students can work each other, they can learn from each other. If you unite students to effectively complete a project, then they will learn about each other's work ethic and if it is something to work on then feedback will be provided by their peers and then it will improve. Collaboration should be used in mostly all projects in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteCollaboration is a valuable tool when it is done correctly and effectively. I think it is important for people to learn how to work in groups, especially with people they would not normally work with. Once students enter the real world they may be required to work with co-workers. Collaboration requires everyone in the group to contribute and be open to everyone's ideas. Often times in schools, students are assigned groups and only a few of the group members do the work. It is imperative for teachers to teach students the proper way of working collaboratively.
